Mr. Bernahl is co-founding partner of Coastal Luxury Management, a company that focuses on acquiring and managing unique opportunities in the hospitality sector. The company’s first major project was Pebble Beach Food & Wine, a 4-day, annual event hosted at Pebble Beach Resorts that attracts nearly 5,000 people. Pebble Beach Food & Wine celebrates 60 celebrity chefs, 250 international wineries and provides cooking demos, wine tastings, a rare wine auction, and numerous multi-course lunches and dinners throughout the weekend. Coastal Luxury Management also operates the American Institute of Wine & Food, a 4,000 member national culinary organization with chapters in most major cities. The company also launched a new lifestyle event concept this fall, taking over the defunct TomatoFest: Harvest: Farm to Table. The twoday lifestyle event celebrates California Agriculture with more than 100 wineries and 50 chefs in a gorgeous outdoor setting in sunny Carmel Valley. CLM also creates national luxury events for Lexus in conjunction with new car launches. CLM created a restaurant division in 2009. The first projects include Cannery Row Brewing Company, scheduled to open in the Spring of 2010 and the purchase of the historic Stokes Adobe building in Monterey, which plans to have a grand re-opening in prior the US Open in June of 2010. Current future projects for Coastal Luxury Management include an exclusive seven day culinary experience in partnership with Virgin Limited Edition on Necker Island, Richard Branson’s private island and a restaurant division slotted to launch in 2010. Large-scale Food & Wine events in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, and Vancouver are currently in planning stages, as well as a strategic partnership with Dick Clark Productions, which owns and operates the Golden Globes, American Music Awards, Rockin’ New Years Eve, and the American Country Music Awards. In addition, Mr. Bernahl is Co-Founder, President, & CEO for Pacific Tweed, Incorporated, a luxury men’s and women’s fashion apparel firm located in Carmel, California. Pacific Tweed has been the recipient of numerous accolades including, “Best New Business” (2004), “Retailer of the Year” (2005, 2006, 2007), and “Business of the Year” (2006) from the Monterey Peninsula Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Bernahl is involved in numerous community-based organizations. He is past chair and now Chairman Emeritus of CASA of Monterey County, a program that is dedicated to the safety and well being of children in the Child Dependency System in Monterey County. Mr. Bernahl was honored to have an endowment fund created in his name, the David Alan Bernahl, II Local Heroes Fund, (Community Foundation) which is dedicated to the ongoing financial support of CASA of Monterey County. He is President for the Monterey County Sheriff’s Advisory Council (SAC), a program that raises funds to support the deputies and volunteers with training and necessary equipment regardless of fluctuating County budgets. Mr. Bernahl created and implemented the Crystal Badge Program for SAC, which has generated over $100,000 since its inception. He is also Chairman for the Monterey County Workforce Investment Board, a 43-person board comprised of community leaders with a $15M annual budget, focused on workforce development. The program helps dislocated workers, offers countless training programs, and focuses on bridging the gaps between employees and employers in Monterey County. He is a board member for the Leadership Council of Monterey County, which helps guide the Monterey County Competitive Clusters Project (C2), a public-private partnership and a cluster-based economic initiative that highlights the region's economic challenges and articulates a new economic vision for Monterey County. In addition, Mr. Bernahl is the Monterey Bay Regional Chair for the Lincoln Club of Northern California. He is also board member and Charges de Presse for the Chaine des Rotisseurs Monterey Chapter, an international gastronomic society founded in Paris in 1950, devoted to promoting fine dining and preserving the camaraderie and pleasures of the table. He is a past member of the Rotary Club of Carmel-by-the-Sea where he is a Paul Harris Fellow. He is a past board member of Monterey County Bank and Northern California Bancorp, a publicly traded company (NRLB). He is the recipient of the “Outstanding Young Citizen” Award from the Jaycees and the “Movers and Shakers” Award from Forum for the Future. He is a past board member of the Carmel Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the Destination Marketing Committee for the City of Carmel.
